Overview

This article list down the steps on how to upgrade from one(existing) version of Faveo to another(latest). There are two ways to upgrade using system's auto upgrade option or to manually update. We recommend using auto update option In any case do take backup of file system and database before starting with this process. This document is for manual update.

Getting started with the update

You may download the latest version of Faveo from the billing application https://www.faveohelpdesk.com/billing

Once you have the zip archive of latest version you can follow the steps mentioned below

NOTE: Please make sure you keep backup of your database and filesystem, incase something goes wrong you can revert to older version.

File system update

  • Compress your existing Faveo’s directory and take a backup of it.

  • Upload and extract the zip archive on your Faveo system server

  • Rename your existing application to old_name-old (appended -old in name) E.g: If name is support than change it to support-old

  • Rename newly extracted zip archive directory to old_name (name of your faveo system) E.g: rename to support

  • Move or copy following files from old to new system as described below Copy .env file from old directory to new directory

If public is present in Faveo system URL

               > From :- Old-Root-directory
               > to :- New-Root-directory

If public is not present in Faveo system URL

               > From :- Old-Root-directory/code
               > to :- New-Root-directory/code

To copy user uploaded profile pictures and logo images copy “uploads” directory from old directory to new directory

If public is present in Faveo system URL

             > From :- Old-Root-directory/public
             > to :- New-Root-directory/public

If public is not present in Faveo system URL

             > From :- Old-Root-directory
             > to :- New-Root-directory

To copy ticket attachments and inline images added by users/agents on tickets copy “attachments” and “private” directories(if exist) from old directory to new directory

If public is present in Faveo system URL

             > From :- Old-Root-directory/storage/app
             > to :- New-Root-directory/storage/app

If public is not present in Faveo system URL

             > From :- Old-Root-directory/code/storage/app
             > to :- New-Root-directory/code/storage/app

Copy your custom language (if you’ve added your custom language package in the system)

If public is present in Faveo system URL

             > From :- Old-Root-directory/resources/lang
             > to :- New-Root-directory/resources/lang

If public is not present in Faveo system URL

             > From :- Old-Root-directory/code/resources/lang
             > to :- New-Root-directory/code/resources/lang

Database Updates

SQL Dump method

Take a backup of your current database and import update sql dumps to update your database. Update database sql dumps can be find in your new system. To update database you just need to import these dumps in increasing order of version.

Example: If you are updating Faveo v1.9.5 to v1.9.15 you have to dump updatedatbase.sql from each directory named as “update from x to y” where x denotes current version and y denotes new version in increasing order of version. So for given example we have to dump updatedatabase.sql from

  • Update from 1.9.5 to 1.9.14-beta
  • Update from 1.9.14-beta to 1.9.14
  • Update from 1.9.14 to 1.9.15+

Where to find updatedatbase.sql files?

If public is present in Faveo URL:

Root-directory/DB

If public is not present in Faveo URL:

Root-directory/code/DB

Running migration command using SSH

If you have SSH access to your server then you can simply update the database by running the artisan command. For running the command follow the steps below

  • Login to server using SSH clients like putty or Bitvise
  • Use change directory command to change your current working directory to you Faveo system root directory Eg: cd path_to_your_faveo_directory
  • Run the following command php artisan migrate

Enter yes if prompted for confirmation.

Finalizing update

Once you’ve completed the steps mentioned above, you need to run an update URL so system can be updated for latest changes in the application. After performing above steps run these URL

http://you-faveo-system-url/update-system

Check email settings are working fine.

  • Go to Admin panel>email>diagnostic
  • Try to send test emails from all configured mail in the system
  • If you are receiving email then everything is setup.
  • If not try to update email settings.
