An EPSRC officer stated that there are a lot complains about the way they defined research areas, topics and communities.
The officer said it was not clear how fine or coarse they should be divided into, and they should be constantly changed to reflect the funding and research trend.
This thesis aims to find an answer to this issue through the use of Network Analysis and Community Detection Algorithms.
If successful, this would become a valuable asset to EPSRC as it will help clarify how research topics should be used to label research grants and researchers.
