What's new vs. v82pre6?

  • (functionality bug) fixes jimmejardine#134
  • a few more code robustness edits, so that the 'something has happened' dialogs don't show up any longer simply because something goes wrong in a Dispose action somewhere.

All other info is as for the previous prerelease: v82pre4+v82pre5.

v82pre4 Pre-release
Pre-release

Everything up to v82.0.7213.27662 release.

This release is binary compatible with previous releases v80 and v79: the file storage formats haven't changed since v79.

The most important addition to v82 is much improved code robustness: Qiqqa SHOULD open and peruse user libraries, which have been corrupted somehow previously and which would crash or otherwise cause releases v80, v79 and older releases to fail or become completely inoperable. Bad/invalid/truncated PDF files in a user library or Watch Folder should not fatally wound Qiqqa any more.

v82 DOES NOT 'auto-fix' such libraries; this is reserved for a future release. See also jimmejardine#80

The CHANGELOG (and CHANGELOG_full) list the work done in this series of commits.

At the time of this writing, the CHANGELOG_FULL is completed and the CHANGELOG (which is a reduction of the latter) is under construction. Once done, it will show up in this pullreq as the pullreq tracks the release branch.

Tip

Run a Qiqqa Expedition session on the entire library to retrigger OCR and text indexing of your library files, which were previously insufficiently parsed/processed (silently) due to a major fault in older QiqqaOCR: see also jimmejardine#74, jimmejardine#73 and https://github.com/GerHobbelt/qiqqa-open-source/issues/1

How to download & install

  • download:
    • scroll down this page to the ►Assets line and click the triangle to 'unfold' the list of downloads.
    • click the setup82pre4.exe to download the v82 Qiqqa Installer.
  • install:
    • once you have downloaded setup82pre4.exe, open it (or doubleclick on it in your local Downloads directory) to run the installer
    • the installer will detect a possible previous installed Qiqqa version and report this. Continue the installation process to upgrade your Qiqqa to v82pre4.

In case you want to revert to v79

(v79 is the last commercial release of Qiqqa and has some built-in behaviours that are not present in the Open Source version of Qiqqa, such as Web Libraries support)

  • download the v79 installer from the qiqqa.com website at http://download.qiqqa.com/Content/Client/setup79.exe
  • as above: open it or doubleclick it in your local Downloads directory to run that installer.
  • the installer will detect the previously installed v82 Open Source version and report it. Continue the installation process to revert your Qiqqa to v79.

If you are still running the commercial version of Qiqqa, historical versions will be available at Qiqqa.com.

NOTE THAT SUPPORT FOR HISTORICAL VERSIONS OF QIQQA WILL DISAPPEAR SOMETIME DURING 2020!

To rollback to a previous version, we keep the last few versions (about 10 of them) at
http://download.qiqqa.com/Content/Client/setupXX.exe
where XX should be replaced with the version number (e.g. setup79.exe).

The important bits:

  • Sniffer UI has been augmented with a few checkboxes for additional filtering of the set to work through.
  • PDF handling has been improved with a strong focus on coping well/better with b0rked or otherwise flakey input files & downloads
  • my first go at building Qiqqa; despite the remaining issues, I am happy. But you might want to tread carefully as this has not been 'production quality tested'. It has survived the onslaught of a huge Qiqqa library at ~ 20K+ PDF/records though. 😄
