Original comment from 2015-11-17. It's possible that we already resolved this.

I believe that you do NOT currently get any useful error messages about needing to set use_init_interp = .true. if you try to run with an initial conditions file with the wrong number of vertical layers: you just get a cryptic death in this case.

Minor bug fixes, cleanup, documentation and enhancements
