Introduction

This Blender plugin generates bezier curves, pipes and ribbons in elaborate weavings, based off of a framework mesh. Tested with Blender 2.79.

Two sorts of weavings are available:

  • Celtic Knots are a intricate decorative design found in Celtic and other cultures mosaics and manuscripts. The knots often include elaborate variations and unusual angles that the plugin does not attempt to create, so touching up the resulting path in blender may be necessary for some designs.

  • Twill weaves are a classic textile weave. Each thread dips under two others, then over two others. The plugin deviates from a true twill as necessary to fit the topology of the mesh.

Refer to the tutorial for some instructions on how to use the plugin, and the gallery for some examples of what is possible.

Credits

I am indebted to this tutorial for the explaining clearly how to simply construct celtic knots, and their relation to graph theory.

The following papers gave me a clear idea how to handle twills under the same framework, and the idea of rendering output as a ribbon.

And of course, to the Blender Foundation for making such an excellent piece of open source kit.
