pyVmomi will be on it's own release cycle with the first part of the version number '5.5.0' indicating the most recent vSphere compatibility version and the preceding year and number stamp '2014.1' as the bug fix version.
Major releases will follow a progression like: 5.5.0, 5.5.0_2014.1, 5.5.0_2014.2, and so on as long as they are in maintenance.
