Determine mask mode in Python instead of C #7548

A minor cleanup.

At the moment, getmask2 passes mode to the C method font_render, which determines if the image should be RGBA or L, and then passes that final mode back to Python.

The C method font_render doesn't change the value of the mode variable passed into it though, so rather than passing an extra piece of information back to Python, the mode can just be set in the Python layer.
