Using the same codepen as in #5005 and #5004 https://codepen.io/nicolaskruchten/pen/NWxoWGR?editors=0010

  1. newPlot@0
  2. scrollZoom a bit
  3. click "pan" modebar button: zoom level changes!

It only happens with the perspective projection.
The orthographic appears to work just fine | demo.

Might be related to gl-vis/gl-plot3d#19.

OK. You know my feelings on the "deep web of tiny modules" ... feel free to just inline whatever you need to to get the necessary patches applied :)

Yeah, the problem appear to be in one of those modules.
I'll get back to debugging it after 1.55.0 is out.

hard to tell if this has the same cause as #5004 ... the last known state is not saved, and when scroll-zooming (with a mouse that has notches for discrete zoom increments!) this is just more obvious?

Hi - we are trying to tidy up the stale issues and PRs in Plotly's public repositories so that we can focus on things that are still important to our community. Since this one has been sitting for several years, I'm going to close it; if it is still a concern, please add a comment letting us know what recent version of our software you've checked it with so that I can reopen it and add it to our backlog. Thanks for your help - @gvwilson
