It would be better to modify the local (user-scoped) install path from ~/.local/share/gedit/styles to ~/.local/share/gtksourceview-3.0/styles, that way the theme can be used by other apps that use the same GTK Source View themes (like Meld).

Installing the theme to the gtksourceview-3.0 local path allows the usage in all apps that use GtkSourceView to render code, not just gedit.
