Failure to start kernel due to the use of outdated IPyKernel module

Python kernels can fail to start due to the use of outdated versions of IPyKernel.

Recommended solution

  • Please consider updating the IPyKernel module to the latest version.

Try using the the following command:

# if using conda, where `env name` is the name of the conda environment.
conda install -c conda-forge -n <env name> ipykernel --update-deps --force-reinstall
# if not using conda
<fully qualified path to Python> -m pip install ipykernel -U --force-reinstall
