Tourism plays a significant role in India's economy as one of the largest service industries. It is experiencing rapid growth and is vital for the country's economic well-being. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, in 2018, tourism contributed ₹16.91 lakh crore (US$220 billion) or 9.2% of India's GDP, and it supported 42.673 million jobs, accounting for 8.1% of total employment. In 2019-20, tourism was estimated to directly contribute 2.7% to GDP and 6.7% to overall employment in the country.
India's popularity as a tourist destination stems from its diverse range of attractions, which are found throughout the country. Each state in India boasts its own unique tourist offerings. From thrilling wild safaris and mesmerizing desert safaris to serene nature retreats, India has something for everyone. It is an ideal destination for honeymooners, adventure enthusiasts seeking thrilling activities, spiritual seekers exploring sacred places, and history buffs delving into the rich historical sites of India.
This project focuses on Tourism analysis of India (primarily of foreign tourists) from the data obtained from https://data.gov.in/
Here we are performing this analysis using eight different types of data set,
- India-Tourism-Statistics-1981-2020-fta_nri_ita.csv : This dataset includes statistics on foreign tourist arrivals in India from 1981 to 2020 This dataset also includes a disaggregation between international tourists (ITAs), foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) and non-resident Indians (NRIs). The percentage change between consecutive values is included in the dataset.
- India-Tourism-Statistics-2001-2019-agegroup.csv : This dataset includes statistics of FTA distribution in India by age from 2001 to 2019 in percentage.
- India-Tourism-Statistics-2001-2019-quaterly.csv : This dataset includes quarterly distribution statistics of the percentage of foreign tourists visiting India from 2001 to 2019.
- India-Tourism-Statistics-2001-2019-worldvsindia.csv : This dataset includes comparisons between world tourism and Indian tourism with world rankings from 2001 to 2021.
- India-Tourism-Statistics-2019_region-and-reason.csv : This dataset includes statistics of ITAs in India in 2019 This dataset includes the percentage distribution of international tourist visits to India by specific factors grouped by countries (also regions).
- India-Tourism-Statistics-2021-monuments.csv : The dataset used here is the statistics of the number of Domestic and foreign tourists to popular monuments in India during 2019,2020 and 2021 along with their regions.
- India-Tourism-Statistics-region-2017-2019.csv : The dataset used here is the statistics of the contribution to the share market of Indian tourism in percentages from 2017 to 2019.
- India-Tourism-Statistics-statewise_2019-2020_domestic_foreign.csv : This dataset includes statistics of domestic and foreign tourists visiting India in 2019 and 2020 per state.
