Azure Foundations CIS

Configure Azure Tenant to be CIS compliant

Based on CIS Microsoft Azure Foundations Benchmark 1.2.0

Caution(s)

This role will make changes to the subscription which may have unintended concequences. This is not an auditing tool but rather a remediation tool to be used after an audit has been conducted.

This role was developed against a new Azure Tenant and subscription. If you are implimenting to an existing tenant and subscription(s) please review this role for any site specific changes that are needed.

To use release version please point to main branch

Additional costs may be incured for specific features

  • 1.2.1 | To create custom roles, your organization needs Azure AD Premium P1 or P2
  • 2.9 | Azure Defender
  • 4.2.1 | Azure Defender for SQL costs 15 USD/server/month. It includes Vulnerability Assessment and Advanced Threat Protection.
  • 5.1.4 | KeyVault transactions
  • 6.4 | Storage Accounts used for storing logss
  • 7.6 | Endpoint Protection

Requirements

  • RHEL 8 or CentOS 8 to execute the playbook/role
  • Azure Tenant and subscription
    • A Service Principle with the following access:
      • Read role at the subscription level
      • SECTION 1 App Registration needs GraphAPI permission "User.Read.All"
      • SECTION 3 Service Principal requires Contributor role
      • SECTION 8 Access Policy required to allow Service Principal to list keys and secrets

Known Issues
