What does Wifi Channel Watcher do?

Polls your neighboring routers and access points to determine how many other devices are on your same channel.

Why not use the auto channel setting in the router dashboard?

This OpenWrt thread about ACS explains some of the problems with auto channel selection.

There are always vacant channels in my area and while I have my channel selection static, my neighbors who utilize auto selection will inevitably make it's way onto my channel, irregardless of the signal strength my router is set to.

I have personally found my wifi to be more stable when I manually adjust the channel once interference is detected. I just got tired of waiting until my experience degraded before changing it, so that was the catalyst for this script.
