Project Bluestone is an application designed to simply and easily organize and keep track of anything.
Bluestone has a robust login system built with the authentication services from the Firebase cloud infrastructure. This allows for a secure and fast experience for all users.
Bluestone is composed primarily of two main functioning pieces, Cards and Calendars. Cards are the essential building blocks used to organize and keep track of the simple stuff. All sorts of data and information can be tracked neatly and cleanly at your fingertips. You can add:
- Sticky Notes
- Bullet Point List
- Checkbox Style List
Just to name a few!
Calendars are your standard calendar applications that you're use to but with a little extra customization capability to enhance readablity and overall user experience.
Card and Calendars have visiblity and scope settings to allow other users to see and add to your personal cards or calendars.
Bluestone was developed in a two week sprint as a proof of concept mobile application and has been (and will continue to be ) receiving improvements. Bluestone was made with the Flutter SDK from google (written in the Dart language) and has a Firebase backend storing all of the user credentials and data.
Coming from C# and traditional normalized SQL databases, Dart and Firebase had a different feel to say the least. There was a learning curve to overcome especially when considering Firebase's stucture and how polar opposite it is to what I had been doing. Learning a language in itself can be challenging but to do so and impliment it at a high level is even harder and in only two weeks was nuts. But in the end it has made me a better developer and I have learned many skills that I never would have. Things like indepth researching and trouble shooting, use of github issue threads, state management to name a few.
