Turbo Broadcast

Hello everyone,

I'm trying out the view_component with the newly released hotwire, I'm really loving the component way of building the app and while doing some tests with turbo I cannot figure out if is it possible to render a component in a broadcast instead of a partial. I found out in controller you can reapond with a component rendered to string but I'm struggling to understand if can be broadcasted.

You can either put the component render in a partial or call the component's .call method to generate its payload. It's not clear where you would want to broadcast from: the model or the controller.

I personally don't think linking a model directly and tightly to a view is a good idea and as such like the indirect link that the to_partial_path method provides for linking a broadcast to a view (which then in turn can have a ViewComponent in there or not depending on the situation), but that's a more complex decision to be made and I'd leave that to you.

As for the render call, I will see if I can find a way around it.

I'm just testing out components with hotwire and trying to figure out what would be the best solution for handling such real time things. I ended up asking here because I thought it wasn't really best way to render a partial that was then rendering a component. Maybe I'm misusing the components or the broadcast feature I dont know I always look forward to understand and do it the best way.

@xkraty I've yet to play with Hotwire, but would love to see it work nicely with ViewComponents.

I haven't heard about anyone's experiences with the two, so I wouldn't feel bad asking about this here ❤️

as @joelhawksley said I'd also like to see the components play well with hotwire; in my vision paired together they let you design new user experiences with incredible ease.

As for now I think that render the component in the partial is the way, thanks
