It's been a while since I updated this project, and I acknowledge there are compatibility issues with newer versions of React that have persisted for some time.

The project hasn't been considered abandoned until now; I have been exploring various ways to move it forward.

An interesting development is the new Web Transitions API, which provides transitions more natively and would have offered a more stable and future-proofed solution. I was holding off to see how this developed, and now popular libraries and frameworks are implementing their own methods to interface with it. This trend makes a one-size-fits-all library like this somewhat redundant.

When it comes to using this project with Vanilla React, there is only one real issue: the third-party Transition Group library is also out of date. I attempted to migrate the project to Framer Motion in several ways to resolve this issue, but I encountered consistency problems and don't think other quick fix solutions are worth the effort at this stage considering everything else.

I recommend considering alternative approaches that align better with your choice of frameworks and tools.
