A Woolen Sleevelet's TF2 Config, updated by Jötunn

Wait, you're not Woolen!

Why yes, you are correct. I am not Woolen, I am Jötunn. But, I decided that after using these configs for years, that they could do with a refresh. With the advent of MasterComfig containing several functions that Woolen's config used to cover, I cleared these out to improve loading times while retaining the custom class binds while lightening the autoexec to options not easily accessible within the MasterComfig configurator webpage. Aside from that, I added more information to the configurable options to better explain what they do.

All of these scripts are intended to be used alongside Yttrium's Viewmodel Mod. This handles all of the viewmodel hiding that Woolen uses.

MasterComfig, the ultimate in general purpose TF2 config, and the recommended pairing with these.

What's Changed from the old scripts?

I have either removed or commented (Set the code to be ignored by the game) about half of the old autoexec.cfg as much of it was made redundant by MasterComfig. I left in the custom networking settings under comments for advanced or comp players to adjust to their specific liking. But, things like all of the flat mouse settings come as an addon for MasterComfig, and so having the extra set in the autoexec.cfg is again, redundant, and also makes the game take a little longer to load up. I changed the nullmove script from a combination of the nullmove and the crouchjump script to just being the crouchjump script, as like with the flat mouse settings, MasterComfig has a premade version of it all good to go. The same again for the included settings scripts by Comanglia. Comanglia's graphics settings scripts are specifically made into MasterComfig and with far more LODs to choose from.

What hasn't changed are any of the keybindings that Woolen made for each class. Right clicking as Scout still draws and fires the pistol, pressing the rear thumb button as sniper draws and uses your melee, front thumb button does the same with your secondary. All the same. What I did change was removing more redundant config code from the class configs that just ends up lengthening load times.

The other objective of this update was to bring it here, to GitHub. Pastebin was fine, but downloading the scripts directly is a bit tedious, and you can't have a nice informative readme on the front page like this one. Easier downloads, easier conveyance of instructions, links, and directions to support are all better here.

If there is something I removed that you want me to add back, give me a poke on Discord and I will add it to a list for a future update to this repo.

Installing the configs

TF2 Launch options

Go to your TF2 launch options and add these; change the number after refresh to whatever your monitor's refresh rate is:

-novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -nohltv -particles 1 -precachefontchars -noborder -refresh 240

Download

To download the configs, click the green Code button above, then click Download Zip in the menu that pops up. Then, extract Woolen-Configs-main.zip, which should create a folder of the same name.

If you are not using MasterComfig, copy the contents of the user folder out of it and into the main cfg folder.

Installation

Where to install:

Windows

Navigate to:

C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

Or if you have TF2 installed on a secondary drive

(Letter of your games drive)/SteamLibrary/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

Copy+Paste the contents of Woolen-Configs-main/cfg folder into the above folder

Mac OS

Navigate to:

(home folder)/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

Or to:

(Games drive)/SteamLibrary/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

Copy+Paste the contents of Woolen-Configs-main/cfg folder into the above folder

Linux (Most distros)

Navigate to

~/home/(home folder)/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

Or to:

(Games drive)/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

Copy+Paste the contents of Woolen-Configs-main/cfg folder into the above folder

If the above file paths aren't exact to your distro, simply use the manage files menu option from within steam. The above example is the file path for most distros, as steam makes a folder link to the local data folder used by the distro within (home folder)/.steam/

The final file structure should look like this:

tf
└── cfg
    ├── antivirus.cfg
    ├── config.cfg
    ├── crouchjump.cfg
    ├── overrides
        ├── autoexec.cfg
        ├── demoman.cfg
        ├── engineer.cfg
        ├── heavyweapons.cfg
        ├── medic.cfg
        ├── pyro.cfg
        ├── scout.cfg
        ├── sniper.cfg
        ├── soldier.cfg
        └── spy.cfg
    ├── recordingstuff.cfg
    └── scoreboard.cfg

Customization

While these files can be modified using any text editor, like Notepad, it is highly recommended that you use Notepad++ since it understands code batching and indentation, or any other editor that does the same. VSCode is an alternative for Windows, and Linux has a great multitude of such apps.

General Instructions:

Most, if not all, of the main customization is located in the user/autoexec.cfg file, which is done by uncommenting (removing the two slashes) in front of a setting you wish to use, and then changing any values you deem fit. If you wish to edit a specific executable .cfg file, go right ahead, but this is generally for people who know what they are doing.

However, to enable some scripts, namely ones that rebind keys, the exec command must be enabled in the individual class .cfg. For example, to enable the crouchjump script for sniper, you must uncomment exec crouchjump inside cfg/user/sniper.cfg. This also goes for the advanced scoreboard script.

Help and support:

You can submit bug reports & questions via the GitHub issue tracker. You may also Submit a pull request, and that is great for me since you can make your own fixes and I can simply merge them into the master branch, and copy them into the versions stored on my computer. This or simply sending me a ping over on Discord are the best ways to let me know something is borked. Links to the steam group, my Discord, and the HUDS.TF Discord are at the top of the readme.

Special Thanks

Thanks to: A Woolen Sleevelet for creating the class configs and gathering the other useful bits of this. Also mastercoms for her immense contributions to the source engine modding community.
