IVCT TC Runner Application image

The Test Case (TC) Runner Application executes test cases. The TC Runner Application image is based on a Local RTI Component (LRC) Base image, see HLA containers project.

The LRC Base image is a minimal image and provides basic functionality to launch an HLA federate application. Several LRC Base images are available from the HLA containers project for different RTI implementations (Pitch, VTMaK, Portico) and Linux distributions (Alpine, Debian, CentOS). Each LRC Base image supports a number of environment variables to provide initial settings for the RID file, such as the address of the Pitch CRC, the address of the VTMaK RTI Executive, the network adapter to use, and the logging level. Some of the settings in the RID file can be overridden by the settings provided via the Local Settings Designator.

Important to note is that for the Pitch RTI the IVCT TC Runner Application image on the Docker Hub is a skeleton container image. I.e. the image does not include the actual Pitch LRC files due to license restrictions. These files can only exist in the file system of the end-user and need to be mounted into the TC Runner Application container at run-time. Instructions on how to do this are provided in this repository.

Info An alternative is to create a fully functioning TC Runner Application container image for the Pitch RTI. That is, an image that does include the Pitch LRC files. Such an image cannot be provided from the Docker Hub and can only be created in the container run-time environment of the end-user. Instructions on how to do this can be found at Create a functioning IVCT TC Runner Application image.

Environment Variables

For a full list of parameters, see the IVCT Configuration.

The most relevant ones for the Operator are:

Environment variable Description Default if not set

SETTINGS_DESIGNATOR

Value to use for the RTI connection string if no value is provided in the SuT conformance statement.

The default is an empty string

FEDERATION_NAME

Value to use for the federation name if no value is provided in SuT conformance statement.

TheWorld

TESTENGINE_LABEL

Value to indicate with which RTI a Testengine is linked with eg.: TESTENGINE_LABEL=pitch_v5.3.2.1_runner1 TESTENGINE_LABEL=makRti4.6_runner1

Broadcast (Factory.TESTENGINE_LABEL_DEFLT)

If the SETTINGS_DESIGNATOR is an empty string then the LRC Base image defaults to what is set in the RID file.

Besides the above environment variables, additional environment variables are inherited from the LRC Base image. The most relevant ones per RTI vendor are shown below.

Pitch LRC settings

Environment variable Description Default if not set

PITCH_LRCADAPTER

Applies to direct mode. The network adapter that the LRC should use.

Use IP route to CRC to determine adapter

PITCH_CRCADDRESS

CRC address in the format of <host>:<port> (direct mode) or <crc-nickname>@<boost host>:<boost port> (booster mode).

crc:8989

PITCH_ADVERTISE_ADDRESS

Applies to direct mode. Use this address to advertise the LRC. The format is [<host address>][:[<mintcpport>]-[<maxtcpport>][:[<minudpport>]-[<maxudpport>]]]

Mode IP, :6000-6999:5000-5999

Portico LRC settings

Environment variable Description Default if not set

PORTICO_LRCADAPTER

The network adapter (network interface) that the LRC should use. The name must be an exact match.

RID file default

VTMaK LRC settings

Environment variable Description Default if not set

MAK_LRCADAPTER

Network interface address to use for the MaK Forwarder

0.0.0.0, i.e. first available non-localhost interface address

MAK_RTIEXECADDRESS

RTI Exec address in the format of <host>:<port>.

rtiexec:4000
