How is this different from Backloggery or SteamCompletionist?

I made Backlog because I wasn't satisfied with existing software/sites. I really like to group my games in purchases, because I buy quite a lot of indie bundles. This way I can not only manage my backlog of games, but also my purchase history. Both Backloggery and SteamCompletionist lack this feature.

Another thing that bothered me is that Backloggery and SteamCompletionist don't have any way to add DLC. I think SteamCompletionist is a really nice website because of the great Steam integration, but it only works for Steam.

Another, obvious reason is that Backloggery and SteamCompletionist are websites on which you make an account to use it. Backlog on the other hand, is a webapp intended to be self-hosted (for now). You can decide for yourself if you consider this as a pro or a con.

How do I add DLC for a game I already have? (Backlog 0.2.x only)

Just add the game a second time and add the DLC. It will not make a duplicate of the game, but will instead link the existing game to the new purchase (and DLC).

Do I really need to manually add every purchase I made?

No, you don't have to. You could just automagically let Backlog import all your games from Steam and not use the purchase system at all. The drawback of this is that you can't use Backlog to manage and keep a record of your purchase history this way.

What are orphaned games?

Orphaned games are games which aren't linked to a a purchase.

How do I change the name of a game without breaking the link with Steam?

Edit the game, change the name to your liking and check the option Don't automatically overwrite appid. This way the appid is 'locked' and won't be overwritten by syncing with Steam. Also, the import games from Steam feature will not add a game from Steam if another game with that appid already exists in the database.

How can I make sure I enter the names of the games exactly like they are in Steam, so they will be linked?

First, import all the games from Steam. This populates the game database with all your games (on Steam), which will be orphaned for now. To add them to purchases, add new purchases with those games. As you type, you will get autocorrect suggestions for the orphaned games.

The Steam import added a lot of bogus games (betas, demos, free2play games, Source SDK) that I don't want in my database, but they keep coming back every time I do a Steam import. What can I do with them?

You can hide them. This way, they're not shown.

Help! On my phone, the design breaks!

I know. Backlog doesn't scale well on viewports <1000px wide, but there's no easy way to fix this without rebuilding the whole thing from scratch and making a mobile version. I used as much responsive design as I could (and Bootstrap certainly helps that!), but at a certain point the content (the tables, primarily) don't fit anymore. That's just the way it is.

I use IE7 and ...

No.
