Smart Energy Systems

An open-source project developed at the institute for the Automation of Complex Power Systems at the RWTH Aachen University and dedicated to developing semantic interoperability solutions for integrating and optimizing multiple energy sectors—electricity, heating/cooling, gas, and transportation—to create a sustainable and efficient energy future.

Table of Contents

Introduction

The Smart Energy Systems project aims to design and implement a holistic energy management platform. By leveraging advanced technologies and integrating various energy carriers, we strive to enhance overall energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and promote sustainability.

Features

  • Sector Coupling: Integration of electricity, heating/cooling, gas, and transportation sectors.
  • Renewable Energy Integration: Maximizing the use of renewable energy sources across all sectors.
  • Energy Storage Solutions: Implementing various storage technologies to balance supply and demand.
  • Advanced ICT and Data Analytics: Utilizing information and communication technologies for optimized energy management.
  • Demand-Side Management: Encouraging efficient energy usage patterns among consumers.
  • Transportation Electrification: Incorporating electric vehicles into the energy system.
