Opening Monologue Voiced in Switch Version #196

I've been playing through the Switch version and one thing I immediately noticed is that they bothered to add voice acting to Keiichi's opening monologue in Onikakushi. I thought this was a nice touch and considering you've added content from the Switch version before, could it be possible to integrate this into an update for the patch? I'm sure many would appreciate it.

So I asked in the discord, as I thought this had already been added.

Apparently there was some discussion a long time ago, and it was decided that it was too spoilery (because the opening monologue doesn't actually say who is talking).

However, when I brought it up again just recently, not everyone thought that it was that spoilery.

So I can't really say whether we'll add it or not at this time.

So, I went ahead and added all of the voice lines from the opening monologue myself. Audio files were extracted from the Switch port, split into multiple parts where necessary and exported as Vorbis audio at quality 10, both done with Audacity. There is a single line in the translation that I changed, being "She is no longer speaking" to "Because she already stopped speaking", as that seemed a more accurate translation of the Japanese written script. In addition I also added the 07th Expansion logo voice line that you normally hear upon the logo showing up as well as the title logo voice line that you normally hear upon the title showing up, which both happens in the Switch port.

- This adds voices from the Switch game, when the 07th logo and title screen are read out loud as "seventh expansion" and "higurashi no naku koro ni"

I've had a play through NelloPed's changes to the opening monologue. While I didn't check directly against the switch game, functionally everything seems fine, and I didn't notice anything wrong.

I've created a PR containing NelloPed's changes

All that needs to be done to have this in the mod is to:

  • Accept the PR
  • Do a new release of Onikakushi.

The main issue is still whether it should be added or not. We might need to do a poll within our team to decide.
