I noticed that if there is a mapillary= tag that the image carousel doesn't show it, rather it just grabs the closest one. I think it would be better to display Wikipedia images first, then tagged images, then the closest one.
I think both could be good, just in case the closest one is more recent or has a better view of the place. But the tagged one should come earlier in the list, as I said earlier. If it eats into your API budget then showing only the tagged one is better.
