Provides support and/or lead teams through the Engineering Open Source Compliance process and implementation of company’s products. Work with engineering and legal management to identify and improve process and program efficiencies. Work can involve external parties such as open source communities, standards bodies, partners, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the HPE open source compliance processes, working closely with Engineering and Legal Departments
  • Triage and review open source proposals from HPE developers
  • Mentor and collaborate with other reviewers on the team
  • Train product and solution teams on open source policy topics, including the legal implications of using open source
  • Improve the documentation for stakeholders re: the review process
  • Modify and adapt the review process to meet dynamic changes in the industry
  • Represent HPE in the open source community at external events

Education and Experience Required:

  • Self-starter with 8+ years software development experience including familiarity with open source technologies and community concepts
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or the equivalent.
  • Superior project management, communication, and interpersonal skills to interact cross-functionally with management and developers alike
  • Strong skills re: time management, prioritization, and follow-up
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and coach others while collaborating as a team member

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of open source licensing and intellectual property concepts
  • Strong understanding of software design & development
  • Previous experience with open source software and open source communities
  • Willingness and ability to consult with many development teams on the options and opportunities with open source
  • Ability to implement best practices and procedures for cross-functional alignment
