There are currently (2023-04-07) 977 occurrence records in GBIF with typeStatus = holotype and basisOfRecord = HumanObservation.

The records I've checked fall into 2 classes:

  1. holotype occurrences based on preserved specimens
  2. occurrences of non-holotypes based on human observations

Finding these makes me wonder about how much "leakage" (or "cross-contamination") there is between basisOfRecord categories. Has anyone tried to quantify this?
