What is the interesting idea with gem and cle?

The interesting idea with gem and cle is using GPG public key encryption with your own default public key. This allows for strong and fast on-the-fly encryption.

  • cle uses this idea to encrypt the clipboard content in-place
  • gem uses this idea to encrypt piped or argument string (also a Python module)
