At the end of 2003, I created my first website, wackomenace (named after I used one of the then common ninja name generator websites), using a prepaid card ([Splash Plastic](https://web.archive.org/web/20031213005651/http://www.splashplastic.com/)) and a friendly web host that accepted it ([Purple Cloud](https://web.archive.org/web/20030210115238/http://www.purplecloud.com/)). It soon grew to include a blog, tools and resources as well as some of my first open source code.

I quickly got into the then popular “blog scene” featuring such luminaries as (in no particular order) [Matt Haughey](https://a.wholelottanothing.org/), [Anil Dash](https://anildash.com/), [Jeffrey Zeldman](https://www.zeldman.com/), [Jason Kottke](https://kottke.org/), [Eric Meyer](https://meyerweb.com/), Mark Pilgrim, [Cameron Barrett](https://about.me/cam), [Dave Shea](http://daveshea.com/), [Dan Cederholm](https://simplebits.com/), [Douglas Bowman](https://stopdesign.com/), [Daniel Bogan](https://waferbaby.com/) and [Shaun Inman](https://shauninman.com/pendium/), amongst others, taking design and development cues as the web quickly evolved. I was even one of the [kottke.org micropatrons](https://kottke.org/about/patron/) and Kickstarter backers for the reboot of [Upcoming.org](https://upcoming.org/about/backers).

In 2006, I went to university at the [University of Reading](https://www.reading.ac.uk/) where I got a degree in Computer Science. During that time, I worked for a year at the [Microsoft Technology Centre](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mtc/locations?activetab=pivotregiongroup:primaryr5) in Reading.
