JBang usage

JBang is a cool utility tool, with that you can make Java based script files that you can run with external dependencies, and because of that it is a great tool for us as well to make sure you have one additional entry point to the Spring Configuration Property Documenter tool.

JBang installation

In this section we are not going to talk about how to install JBang, if you want to you can check it on the official website: https://www.jbang.dev/download/

Usage

JBang can run Java files from any source and because of that we are able to run this file if you have JBang: https://github.com/raw/rodnansol/spring-configuration-property-documenter/master/jbang/src/PropertyDocumenter.java

This is a CLI tool, created with JBang, and it is using PicoCLI. We can run this application with the following commands:

To generate a simple document:
jbang https://github.com/raw/rodnansol/spring-configuration-property-documenter/master/jbang/src/PropertyDocumenter.java generate \
-n "Simple JBang Application" -i spring-configuration-metadata.json \
-tt HTML \
-o spring-app-simple-property-docs.html
To aggregate multiple documents:
jbang https://github.com/raw/rodnansol/spring-configuration-property-documenter/master/jbang/src/PropertyDocumenter.java aggregate \
-n "Multi Module Project" \
-mn "Module A" -i ~/multi-module/multi-module-a \
-mn "Module B" -i ~/multi-module/multi-module-b \
-mn "Module C" -i ~/multi-module/multi-module-c \
-tt HTML \
-o spring-app-aggregated-property-docs.html

Usage: <main class> generate [-hV] [-t[=<template>]] [-tc[=<templateCompiler>]]
                             -i=<input> [-n=<documentName>] -o=<outputFile>
                             [-pt=<projectType>] [-tt=<templateType>]
Documents the incoming input into a file.

Example: jbang PropertyDocumenter.java document \
            -n "Header title"  -i ~/module-a \
            -tt HTML \
            -o property-docs.html

  -h, --help            Show this help message and exit.
  -i, --input=<input>   Input file, directory or JAR file
  -n, --name=<documentName>
                        Main header name
  -o, --output=<outputFile>
                        Output file name
      -pt, --project-type=<projectType>
                        Type of the project,
                        currently supported: MAVEN, GRADLE

  -t, --template[=<template>]
                        Custom template file
      -tc, --template-compiler[=<templateCompiler>]
                        Template's compiler fully qualified name
      -tt, --template-type=<templateType>
                        Desired template type, supported:
                        MARKDOWN, ADOC, HTML, XML

  -V, --version         Print version information and exit.

Usage: <main class> aggregate [-hV] [-ct[=<contentTemplate>]] [-ft
                              [=<footerTemplate>]] [-ht[=<headerTemplate>]] [-tc
                              [=<templateCompiler>]] [-n=<mainName>]
                              -o=<outputFile> [-pt=<projectType>]
                              [-tt=<templateType>] -i=<inputs>...
                              [-i=<inputs>...]... [-mn=<moduleNames>...]...
Aggregates the incoming inputs into one big file while.
Please specify the module names for each input with a sequence.

Example: jbang PropertyDocumenter.java aggregate \
            -n "Multi module project" \
            -mn "Module A" -i ~/module-a \
            -mn "Module B" -i ~/module-b \
            -mn "Module C" -i ~/module-c \
            -tt HTML \
            -o aggregated-property-docs.html

      -ct, --content-template[=<contentTemplate>]
                             Custom content template file
      -ft, --footer-template[=<footerTemplate>]
                             Custom footer template file
  -h, --help                 Show this help message and exit.
      -ht, --header-template[=<headerTemplate>]
                             Custom header template file
  -i, --inputs=<inputs>...   List of input files, directories or JAR files
      -mn, --module-names=<moduleNames>...
                             List of the module names
  -n, --name=<mainName>      Main header name
  -o, --output=<outputFile>  Output file name
      -pt, --project-type=<projectType>
                             Type of the project,
                             currently supported: MAVEN, GRADLE

      -tc, --template-compiler[=<templateCompiler>]
                             Template's compiler fully qualified name
