Action as App in forking mode

So I want to run this action as a GitHub app on my private repo, with these requirements:

• Forking mode, it should be able to fork an external public repo to my github acct
• It should run Post Upgrade Tasks
• It should open PRs against the external, public repo, not in my name but as the bot username, e.g. foo-renovatebot

Is this possible? I need some pointers as to how this must be setup.

The main problem is that apps can't fork because they don't have any "real" user account to fork into

Ah, so even if I supply my PAT as forkToken this combo is not possible? How is the official forkingRenovate managing this?

Yes you can set forkToken to be a PAT while token is an app token. PRs will come from the PAT user and not app

That’s a pity. So did GitHub give you a PAT for the Forking Renovate App, since it apparently can get it working?

No, we registered and use the "real" user @renovate-bot and it forks repos into its own user space
