Improvement: Add more type checking within Forest

Mostly, we need clearer errors for issues arising in the Forest language, since right now it's either a syntax error of some sort (which isn't too bad) if you get the language wrong, or some type error from the generated code, that is incomprehensible unless you have fairly in depth knowledge about how the code is generated.
