Overview

The following proposal showcases an experience for users in Discover to be able to layer in data from other applications or features in Discover to help uncover additional insights. Uncovering insights sometimes means looking at data from different perspectives. Through data layering users are able to do this.

Layer configuration

Users are able to access the overlays menu by selecting the overlays action in the top bar. From here they are presented with a modal and can select which overlays they would live to enable.

Additional selections maybe required based on selected items - these flows need to be defined. The mockups simply show a framework for enabling and using the feature.

Example data layering - Alerts

Once a data layer is selected it can manifest in overlays on the histogram, tabs in the tabbed navigation, additional columns in the results table, or access to additional flows. It’s up to the data layer contributor to define how they would like to integrate into the Data Explorer framework.
