Make groups visible to other users #19895

Hi, you can do this by creating a company wide address (contacts) book which should include which team they belong to. |
Hey, thats not a good solution, as my users already come from another source (civicrm - sql sync) and I then have to create an additional sync. Also from the user perspective it seems very inpractical to switch to the addressbook to get this information. Would love to hover over a username in talk to get additional information about that user, mostly about groups/departments that person is part of. Edit: Don't know how to reopen. |
We are talking about the groups a user is added to by the admins, correct? Usually I'd think that's used by admins as more of a user management thing. It is possible to show it, though. It wouldn't be too much of an issue if there are only one or two groups, but if a user is a part of many groups, showing that in the tooltip may be a problem. It can look something like this. And for many groups it can be something like this. On clicking on "Engineering, Design..." it can expand to show all the groups (this will probably look odd if a user is part of a lot of groups, say more than 10 or something). I'm not sure how often it it would be used by non-admins, though. |
When the user belongs to many groups, could we show all groups that he/she belongs to when clicking on the groups entry? How could that look like? |
@nimisha-vijay awesome solution, that’s where I’d expect it as well! For cases where there are more groups, we can do it twofold:

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I as a non admin need to know about the groups of other users to see what (projects/departments) they're workin' on or skills they have. It's just about the group name, not the information that lies within that group!!
Describe the solution you'd like
Bonus:
Describe alternatives you've considered
Just have the current information and don't know anything about that user.
