We've recently added support for scanning windows filesystems by identifying where their registries are and using syscalls to mount those temporarily such that we can get out all the required asset information.

We did find some cases where this was not working as intended and #4226 was a temporary solution. We should investigate and go back to using syscalls, if possible.
