Can't sign in

Downloaded the Ubuntu 18.04 deb package for the mcpe launcher, and followed all instructions for installation. I have a Microsoft account through Github, so when I try to use that as my sign-in, it sends me to Github to login, and then tells me there was a problem signing into my MS account. So I tried to set up a new account using my phone number, which also requires an e-mail account or setup of an Outlook e-mail account. So I tried both, and after entering the needed information, there is no button to press to continue, nor will pressing Enter cause it to continue. So I'm completely stuck without a way to sign-in to access the full features.
