This PR is a work around to run sharness without having to sink time in debugging CirlceCI failure caused by PR from a fork:
AFAIK this is a known problem, and we already want to move away from CircleCI to GithubActions (cc @galargh for visibility)
Update: looks like a CI hiccup, circleci in #8890 works again 🤷
