OLD LOG. No longer mantained. But keeping it here as refference for future implementations when I learn more.

**This repository is a WIP, not because it is not done, but because it will never be done. This code is my sandbox to test different ideas and tools to use on other projects. The simplicity of the game allows me to focus on the functionality.**

Lingo Word Game

Project 01

NOV 26, 2020 to DEC 28, 2020

This is my first repository. I am totally new to this, so ignore most here unless you think I can learn from it.

  • ✔️ I will mark this project as finished on DEC 28,2020. I decided to start the GUI version on a different one so as not to break this one.

(these notes are for me to use as reference of my learning and keep the code clean once something is fixed.

  • these are found issues to work on, found under the date of header
  • ✔️ these are fixed [and date]
  • ✏️ * notes and thoughts*

Currently Working on:

DEC 19 - JAN 30, 2020

Database and Score implentation

  • I will be working now on the scores. But I figured I might need to start with user storing. This will be a good practice on how to implement database, storing data, accessing the data and updating it. I got a new job finally so I will be realistic about my timeline. Hence a bit over a month should be ok to learn how databases work with Java.

TO DO:

  • ✔️ fix the loop to not ask again the difficulty nor try again but continue until player presses end game on GIU (25/12)
  • 25/12 : I cleaned it up after 3 days of work! It runs! not smoothly yet. But it runs!

challenges to fix

  • fixed the flow but now it counts the invalid input in the attempts. That will be the last thing I need to fix before building the scoring system.

Week 1 Notes:

  • ✔️ need to be able to restart game
  • ✔️ cuts tries remaining at +1
  • ✔️ cuts attempts at half the tries
  • ✔️ does not counts how many attempts are left
  • ✔️ it does not run the rest of the game.
  • ✔️ loops infinite when you write non-int elements
  • ✔️ still crashes on other input.
  • ✔️ jump to end of game with other numbers.

DEC 3, 2020

  • game does not run after letter input, not crash, not end, just shows blank and game stops

  • will postpone fixing this until the end as using GUI might fix this by limiting selection of options

  • ✔️ when repeating the game, the same word is always chosen. [10 DEC]

DEC 4, 2020

  • ✔️ won't repeat game after it ends, again. [10 DEC]

DEC 5, 2020

  • ✏️ spent most day trying to fix the restart loop without success...

  • ✔️ levels were backwards 😅 [DEC 5]

  • ✔️ replace end booleans with actual ints

DEC 10, 2020

✏️ I managed to run the restart game loop! It was simple... I was just ignoring converting the answer into Boolean! Now I still need to fix the random word to actually reset.

planned implementations

  • ✔️ be able to play as many times as you wish

  • ✔️ have a big word list to choose from

  • ✏️ word list in files, but will replace it at the end, else it is annoying to test with so many words

  • ✏️ 14/12 in progress

  • ✏️ 17/12 finally got the word to randomize from file!

  • ✔️ hints

  • ✏️ 21/12 began also working on this. Need to get first the chosen word to display if it is wrong before being able to implement a hint. It is still random again instead of the same.

  • ✏️ 22/12 can now display the correct word if fail. Will not do more hints after revising. As already showing which letters were right is a hint.

  • multiplayer function (reconsidering, might add for practice)

  • ✔️ scoring system

  • ✏️ 19/12 working on this now

  • ✏️ 21/12 began building the class for this but need to research a bit more on how to use it.

  • ✏️ store the player's progress and scores

  • ✏️ 2/1/21 added score system via SQlite

  • GUI

  • ✏️ 21/12 Also began working on the GUI and learning a lot form it, the GUI seems actually like the easy part!
