Please complete the following information when submitting a feature request or bug report.

  • Extension version: currently 7.1.8, unknown previous
  • Browser name & version: currently Version 86.0.4240.111 (Official Build) (64-bit), unknown previous
  • Operating system & version: Windows 10 pro 64 bit version 2004

After a Great Suspender update, I lost almost all my tab groups - not the tabs themselves, just the grouping.

While updating The Great Suspender, I got the dialog to backup my tab list, which I used and saved the file.
Then the Great Suspender update happened and when it restored my tabs, the groups were almost gone. To be exact, I had a single chrome window with (in order) 4 pinned ungrouped tabs, a unpinned ungrouped tab, around 7 tab groups with approx. 150 tabs in total. After the extension update, I had the same tabs but without the groups with one exception - the first tab group ("TODO") was still there, but it had only a single tab, despite having around 5 before the update.

After that update, I thought that if chrome wanted to be updated too, maybe this would fix this, so I updated - but tab groups were still gone.

I checked session.txt with the stored session and it does not have any tab group information available.

Does The Great Suspender have tab group support in the update/backup/import/export process? I looked around for a bit and couldnt find any reference to this.

Also tried to restore from the extensions recent sessions, no tab groups there either.

If this might help, I also had a few more extensions active, most notably Tabs Outliner that might conflict a bit with the Great Suspender. Removed it since, as I wasn't using it for some time now.

I also had this issue. Actually, I have this issue every time Tab Suspender updates.
Luckily I saved my 200 suspended tabs in a separate session manager. Even though the 20 groupings I had didn't save and the Suspender session manager doesn't even give me any option to save.

I also had this issue on Chrome 87.0.4278.0 on linux (Fedora 31).

Only tab groups with an unsuspended tabs in them didn't get removed, but the suspended tabs from those groups just got dumped into the tab bar without adding them back to the groups.

This occurred for me as well today except for one strange difference:

One tab, in one of my (multiple) tab groups was restored. That tab had not been active during the update.

Ditto. Tab Groups are a critical use case. And now that google has the beginnings of Tab freezing, if it's a choice between Tab Groups and the Great Suspender, Groups wins.

For those who are not aware, there is great concern that this extension may now be malicious in nature.
You will find a great deal of discussion about this here:

#1175

and a summary of the situation to date here:

#1263
