Since the update to MacOS Ventura 13.2.1. ControlPlane sadly no longer works for me

For those scouring the internet in search of a substitute, I recommend either:

EventScripts - https://www.mousedown.net/software/Downloads.html
A simple app, similar to Control Plane

Trypa - https://www.gorgeousity.com/trypa-main
A bit more advanced, but seems to have a community of developers around it

Keyboard Maestro - https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/
Overkill in my opinion, but does the job I think

+1 For Trypa, it's super easy to set up triggers (unlike some of the other tools) and has some very cool CoreML based triggers. It's actually fun to use.

Trypa also has a free version on the App Store that gives you a single trigger.

Currently using it to lock my Mac when my AirTag goes out of range, pretty cool.

Sorry to bump an old post, but I have found HammerSpoon to be useful for detecting and responding to system events. It requires learning the programming language Lua, but its developers call it "staggeringly powerful" which is not too far off:
