Problem

Need an obvious place to be able to move around blocks when live updates aren't enabled

Currently volto 18 has it as a "Order" tab next to blocks

  • Order? what does it mean? order of pages?
  • these tabs disappear in the quanta design. Replaced by settings buttons on the toolbar (page settings) and quanta toolbar (block settings)

Additional related problems

  • would be make it easy to jump to parent blocks when its hard to select due to thinness.
  • be nice to even know the parent exists and get to its settings.

Proposed solution

inside page settings + block settings

Instead I think it should be both in the Page settings and in the block settings

  • in the page settings as a section called "blocks"
    • this means you can still select a block even with block clicking disabled
  • in the block settings as a breadcrumb up the top above the block name, with a dropdown/expand icon.
    • this expands into block navigation - or maybe just switches to the page settings blocks section
    • this means that you also get a quick way to go up to the parent and some information about containment

e.g.

... > Columns > Column > Text [v]

pros

  • no extra buttons on mobile

cons

  • if you can't click on a block then you will have have to go back to the page settings all the time to get get to other blocks. thats going to be a pain?

Other solutions considered

toolbar icon

One obvious option is another icon in the toolbar. But its going to take up space for something not that often used.

quanta toolbar menu item?

Context

Settings button in toolbar to get to the page settings

Image

and if you close the sidebar then you would have to use the quanta toolbar to open it again
