About the group

We have 27 years to reduce worldwide emissions to net zero to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. But how do we get there and what can I do to help? We are a volunteer group of technologists who care about using data and technology to promote clear and impactful actions for people to take to fight climate change.

Launched projects

Since we started in early 2022, we have completed the following projects:

  • DecarbMyState.com: Decarb My State brings together emissions and electrification data for all 50 states + DC and organizes it based on the biggest sources of climate pollution: the machines we use to heat our homes, cook our food, get us places, and produce our power.

  • Illinois Solar Map built in partnership with the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition. As of Nov 2023, over 1,800,000 kilowatts of operating solar capacity have been installed in the State of Illinois. This map allows you to explore solar projects by Census Tract, Place, County, and State Congressional Districts, as well as by category of project.

Hello! I'm a Junior Developer looking to get into climate tech and was wondering how I can be a contributor to these projects. Amy Corson referred me to Chi Hack Night and I would love to contribute, as well as work on real-life projects to help address the climate crisis within our city.

Hi
I would like to contribute to this. Can someone please guide me on the steps required to register for this and whether there are any tasks I can assist with. I have experience in Python and pandas.
