<h1 class="mb-0">Baked Bean Analysis Process v1</h1>
<p class="text-muted mt-0">Note! This page is currently messy as its just an HTML export of a google doc we had. Eventually this would be a downloadable PDF form for you to fill in while running a test and then an online form to submit the data.</p>

<!-- It's come from google docs, so it's ugly, ugly, ugly -->
<h2 class="c0" id="h.5wop228h6ezt"><span class="c8">Introduction</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">This is the detailed process for conducting the Baked Bean Analysis Process (BBAP). This is a scientifically rigorous observation and measurement programme with the aim of publishing reliable data about baked beans to allow cross brand and cross product comparison. Not all Baked Beans are equal!</span></p><h2 class="c0" id="h.z9qmu0pnidc9"><span class="c8">Process overview</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Running this process as written provides a repeatable way to achieve the consistent measurements across many different products, can after can. This process will take around 20 minutes per can. We record lots of parameters. You don’t have to record every data point for every can, but all we do ask is that you do use our process for data that you do submit to make sure that results are repeatable. A full set of results requires two cans, so it’s likely that some tests will be partial if you don’t have two identical cans.</span></p><h2 class="c0" id="h.ecj8ls9fb1zf"><span class="c8">Process Issues</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Making precise measurements including separating the juice from the beans means that it’s not possible to run a taste test on the same can without either affecting the either the taste or the measurement. This is noted in the relevant test sections and means that a full set of tests needs two cans. Can photos? Descriptions, ingredients?</span></p><h2 class="c0" id="h.qa520m5i5ro5"><span class="c8">Environmental Issues</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Running a full suite of tests calls for the wanton destruction of one can of beans - for science. If you run the full set of experiments you will wash the beans and therefore lose most of the sauce from one can, you should not waste the beans themselves! It’s a challenge for the experimenter to find ways to make sauceless beans interesting and edible! This is a fun site but we don’t condone food waste. If you don’t want to waste or eat the sauceless beans, you can still run some of the tests!</span></p><p class="c9 c13"><span class="c5"></span></p><h2 class="c0" id="h.nr818itoiq1o"><span class="c8">Test Selection</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">If you have two identical cans and want to run all the tests - go right ahead and dig in, you can do the all the tests we have written! You are awesome! You will end up with almost a whole can of beans to eat plus the washed beans from the first can. Think of some recipes!</span></p><p class="c9 c13"><span class="c5"></span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">If you only have one can and you don’t want to waste even a single drop of those yummy beans, you should run tests x,y and z.</span></p><p class="c9 c13"><span class="c5"></span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">If you only have one can and want to run as many tests as possible, you will miss out the taste test but blah blah...</span></p><h2 class="c0" id="h.u9war2ryyuyp"><span class="c8">Tools and preparation</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">The following tools are required</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Digital scales, measuring to +- 1g (individual beans are not measured, so 1g accuracy is fine at this time)</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">PH meter</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Viscosity measuring tool</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Bean sieve for separating juice.</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Bean agitation device (aka Spoon, long)</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Bowls</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Bean counting device (human, trustworthy small child etc)</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Patience (for counting recalcitrant beans)</span></p><h2 class="c0 c20" id="h.1z0tkqrh2ydf"><span class="c8"></span></h2><h2 class="c0" id="h.ajstur40nelx"><span class="c8">Data Fields Captured</span></h2><p class="c9"><span class="c5">This is the complete set of data captured - the rest of this document provides a methodology for capturing this data.</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Test date</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Barcode</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Batch number</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Product weight (from packaging)</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Product name (from packaging)</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Manufacturer/brand</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Retailer</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Purchase price</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Measured weight (of complete can) </span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Can weight (minus contents)</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Beans weight (minus juice)</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Count of beans within a tin.</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Taste Rating </span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Ingredients List (from the label)</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Sauce Viscosity </span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Pull Ring Tin?</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Purchase date</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Expiry date/Best before date</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Comments</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">PH Level</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Height Of Can</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Diameter Of Can</span></p><p class="c9 c19"><span class="c2">Pictures Of The Tin & Contents</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c5">From these basic parameters, we can calculate lots of usefuls statistics such as the weight of the juice, the juice/bean ratio, the average shelf life of cans, average baked bean weight, the can volume and a myriad other stats!</span></p><h2 class="c0 c20" id="h.rn9oc1uomv0f"><span class="c8"></span></h2><h2 class="c0 c20" id="h.rw3kabcbgyyo"><span class="c8"></span></h2><hr style="page-break-before:always;display:none;"><h2 class="c0 c20" id="h.wn3sa6hs3fb6"><span class="c8"></span></h2><h2 class="c0" id="h.fklsa1sxquhw"><span class="c8">Process steps</span></h2><h3 class="c21" id="h.eeixb4fdv9jr"><span class="c22">Section 1, Look at the can!</span></h3><p class="c9"><span class="c5">Let’s take measurements before we even think about opening the can!</span></p><p class="c9"><span class="c29">To do: some cells need to be wider - don’t bother reformatting this yet but eventually this could be done with cell merges to make some cells wider.</span></p><a id="t.caabe53157308a4962a81346460ffe7ba19fdb0e"></a><a id="t.0"></a><table class="c10"><tbody><tr class="c7"><td class="c11" colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p class="c3"><span class="c1">Test Date</span></p></td><td class="c4" colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p class="c12"><span class="c14">Funnily enough, Use todays date.
