If I add a DOI for a book section or another item type in Zotero that does not have a dedicated DOI field (e.g. https://doi.org/10.1002/9780470998496.ch1), this is placed in the Extra field, in the form of DOI: 10.1002/9780470998496.ch1. It would be brilliant if the add-on could deal with these.

Zotero increasingly relies on the proper DOI field for features, so I will be moving to storing shortDOIs in Extra under shortDOI: in the near future. At that point, I will also add support for other item types.

That would be amazing! How near is the 'near future' :) (I ask as we might want to build on it #12 - but of course all in your own time, just keen!)

The design will be shortDOI: in extra. You can build your plugin around that and it will work once I implement it.

Just to follow up on this - we're now adding "shortDOI:" to the extra field in some of our libraries, using the shortdoi-API and the Zotero API. Would be great to have this automated using the plugin in the future!
