For those interested in the approach, the Netherlands eScience Centre has been working on a set of national guidelines for Software Management Planning.
I'm curious to know how this approach lands with this community.
Data Management Planning has been around for a while in Australia and has strengths and weaknesses. The "Institutional Underpinnings" program has in part been tackling better coordination around DMPs. Could you imagine developing an SMP for your institution, or perhaps broadening the scope of the existing DMP? Are we ready to think about coordinating efforts, or do we need to see some individual institutions develop this approach to test its effectiveness?

At the end of August they released "A practical guide to software management plans". Later in the year or early next year they will release the full guidelines.
