jinja[spacing] does not apply in var definition

I have the following example playbook:

- hosts: all
  vars:
    _dp_feature: "{{_default_playbook_features[i|int]}}"
    _dp_roles: "{{lookup('vars','_'+_dp_feature|replace('-','_')+'_roles')}}"
  tasks:
    - debug:

Notice the complete lack of spaces in the two variable definitions. Shouldn't the rule trigger?
