1.4.0: documentation cannot be build using latest sphinx

Describe the bug

Looks like documentation cannot be build usog latest sphinx 6.1.3.

To Reproduce

Just run sphinx-build -n -T -b html docs in source tree.

Expected behavior

It should be possible to build documentation.
