Gallery images not displaying scaled image files...

Describe the bug
This report is an attempt to bring awareness to multiple open issues. The Gallery block displays full-size images, rather than choosing the appropriate scaled image.

As of 3/10/2020, all the following issues remain open, and are all related to full-size images being served by the Gallery block:

Rather than belabor the issue specifics here, review the above issues. Over the past 24-months, these issues generated a lot of discussion. Image handling is an issue that affects everyone, and distinctly affects site performance.

Bottom line is getting nested single image blocks with their own settings into a parent gallery block that also has gallery settings. That should help with a lot of issues.

I had a working version of galleries dispalying thumbnails as explained here: #6177 but after a Wordpress autoupdate (sic) backend and frontend are completely fucked up with no gallery behaviour at all and no scaling of thumbs. hat autupdate was the only thing that has changed...

Is there a solution to have thumbnails images in the standard gallery?
I'm already thinking of migrating the whole website to Typo3, which i mainly work with, just to have this out of the way and work with a reliable system.

@paaljoachim I think these sizing issues seem to be resolved in the gallery format, but if you have time to double check that would be great thanks.

These issues have some differing characteristics and a strict interpretation of reported issue - "The Gallery block displays full-size images, rather than choosing the appropriate scaled image." - is no longer applicable.

However, as described #18504 ; the underlying issue that is shared by these issues in the gallery and image blocks still loads larger images than necessary - is still applicable.
