I've got VERY serious news for you. The Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC) and the Free Software Foundation (FSF) are both urging open source developers to ditch GitHub in favour of something else! Why? Because GitHub Copilot, a new AI-powered coding assistant made by Microsoft's subsidiary, is potentially stealing open source code, including code that is licensed with a copyleft like GPL which requires you to make your work available under the same license as the initial work. I can't support an AI which steals Copyleft code.

Alternatives might be:

  • GitLab
  • CodeBerg
  • SourceHut (Alpha stage)
