Is Village detection supposed to be working?

My maps are v1.8 bedrock and it does not seem to detect any villages on the map. (Lots of Villagers but no villages)

I never knew what that feature was supposed to do; I always located villages by looking for villagers. Now I see it identifies one of five villages on my map.
