Reinventing the wheel (collaborations)

With onearmy we want a platform that is open-source, easy to use and encompasses our favourite parts of community-building platforms and tools. We're aware that we're not the first or only people to have this mission in mind, although when we started research for the project there really wasn't an overt and obvious existing platform to partner with and build upon. That's why we started work from the ground-up.

Since then we've had lots of people reach out to share similar ideas, projects and potential collaborations. Some of these are based on entirely different technologies and so are unlikely to ever easily integrate, but that is not to say there isn't value to be had in reaching out and working together. Shared learning experiences and enthusiasm go a long way, and if there is also scope to share code and build together in the future then that really is icing on the cake.
