Minor bug updates

Pull Request Summary

Two minor bug updates discovered when using the CMAKE build.

Description

The first bug includes putting proper ifdef protection around a MPI call and the second update is using variables that are not MPI specific in a write statement.

Issue(s) addressed

An issue was not created, these were bugs found during testing of the CMAKE build.
