I Updated it on my phone but it did not work

I removed it, because it is impossible to know if a new Minecraft Version works with the launcher version you have installed.

Imagine 1.17.40 is available and you have launcher v0.2.5.

The launcher would offer the latest 1.17.40
You might be able to download it, but it is possible you get an incomplete download and you have to manually delete it!
You will see a crash
You will post the crash

With my change you can still play 1.17.30, without seeing a crash about 1.17.40.
